"Chap Gor Mei"
Yesterday it was the last day of cny celebration, for us we just have a family reunion dinner with my in-laws, the nephews, niece and the little kid in the usual restaurant we dinned. After the dinner we joined our neighbors for their open house 'chap Gor Mei" dinner. We were too full for the food but rather we took some wine and drink. It was nice in an open space dinner like this and an opportunity to chat around with all the friends whom we knew. John helped me to take several pictures of the fire work played which dominated its popularity scence among the whole of the housing area here. I only saw my neighbor took out boxes of different varity of firecrackers for his guess to play. The adults played those which would explode high into the sky and the kids played the lighter ones.

Life Church Youth Group CNY visitation to my house
My boy John with the others .... All flowers arrangement done by myself... but sad cos my ipod touch did not do the job well or my self got to blame...
My cakes and cookies... poor me...nobody seem to take it... not so delicous .... could be... but they told me my house was the 4th houses they visited in the evening... after all it was already 10pm lo... George the driver, using the church big van taking all of them here... 15 of them in one van....
Some younger ones just busy indulged themselves with the handy little gadget instead "bye niang" ..... this is real electonic games world.....
The only 3 roses among the thorns!

After all these snaps, only did I realized I need to improve my skill of taking pictures..... who can teach me ah..

CNY
Cruising through hustle n bustle of the cny activities really made me exhausted landing up taking medication that can be grabbed handily from fridge thus unable to come to my ehome to write more for my receipe. I baked 4 cakes last Saturday ( with 2 extra given by friends ) and 10 types of cookies to celebrate my cny with friends and relatives. 1st day of cny I had an open house dinner with them. I just could not imagine that I cooked 12 dishes and ordered 5 dishes of Malay food for I have Muslim friends. Thanks God for giving those extra strength.
Though every time I told myself to avoid all those sweeet n spicy food but when occassion such like cny just could not help myself “falling off the wagon” to cruise through the once in 365 days to celebrate the cny, thus such many cakes n cookies n the spicy food. We r celebrating until 15th day of Chinese lunatic calender, so friends n relatives , u all r welcome as long as I am arround ... "Happy Chinese New Year!"

Mother's Day
Today, many mothers will be pampered or ushered either to the favorite restaurant or special cooked meal by their children as a filial duty to respect them and including me. But I could not go back due to distance apart. Mum, sorry for I cannot divide myself into two as we are here also celebrating for my mum in-law and coincidentally we booked a place on the same date. Qing Ming Jie
Qing Ming Jie , the Chinese Old Soul Day or the Grave sweeping day known to the Chinese, tending to the grave of the departed ones. For the Chinese, it is a day to remember and honor one's ancestors. Young and old pray before the ancestors, sweep the tombs and offer food and libation to the ancestors. The rites are very important to most Chinese and especially farmers and the businessmen. The more they pray or the more they burned mean that the departed souls will help them for accumulating the earthly wealth.
Burning of the spirit money or paper money and now more commercialized using the spirit gifts like paper cars, toys, servants, clothings, shoes or whatever the business of this segment could offer to the market.
Here is a poem for the Qing Ming.
It’s raining hard at the time of the Qing Ming Festival,
The mourner’s heart is overwhelmed on the road upland.
May I ask where there’s a tavern to drown my sorrows?
The shepherd boy points to Xinghua Village in the distance.
3 Years back when I following my hubby to Wen Zhao in China while on his official duty,coincidentally it was on the Qing Ming time, I was very surprised to see that younger generation do not burn such paper money to pay respect to their ancestors but they used flowers. Wreaths were sold every where in super markets or florist stores. The Chinese Engineer who took us around to "Yien Tao Shan" passed through a long stretch of hills and mountain explained to us that Chinese Government now limited the space for the death and to eradicate or a measure to control pollution. Thus, many of the death bodies were cremated and the arches put in the urns were placed in the new grave sites of which we encountered quite a few on the way. I witnessed very little burning or the smoke of the burning of the paper money or paper gifts.
The ridiculous irony is that all those spiritual thingy (libation) make from China are only used in Malaysia or Singapore for the death but very little used in China. Is this not commercial business only?
To me according to my Christian faith, there is no such teaching of burning paper money or paper gifts to the death from the biblical point of view. Rather, I should quote : Luke 16:19 - 31 See, the death are separated from us and a boundary in between us. I can only come to conclude that love the ones that are still alive. Qing Ming is only a day of the year that we remember our loved ones of how we come into existence through them by God Grace and they ,who departed us temporary and we shall met in heaven.
The Rich Man and Lazarus
19"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In hell,[c] where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'
25"But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'
27"He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, 28for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
29"Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'
30" 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
31"He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival is the most revered holidays celebrated not only by the Chinese in Mainland China, but all those Chinese around the globe. This is the time that believers of Deities gathered together with their families offering prayers to their ancestors and the Deities followed by offering them lavish dinners before they really gather to the reunion dinner. My family is of Christian faith, so we do not practice such but we said a grace before we partake our reunion dinner.
This year it marks the year of Metal Tiger as the ancient Chinese believed that each year resembling of the animals like rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, cat, dragon, snake, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog and boar which are considered to be auspicious.
The Chinese New Year is celebrated throughout the 15 days of the calender month either in the January or February depending on the lunar or the solar movements.
Fire crackers or the bamboo bomb ("pau jeun")are widely used during Chinese New Year because it is believed the bright lights and the noise can scare away evil spirits like Nian. It was believed that Nian is a monster that would awake only during the Lunar New Year and would devour men and animals in its path. People used to light a pile of bamboos on Chinese New Year to scare away Nian. When gun powder was invented, it was added to the bamboos, causing loud bangs. With Nian and the other evil spirits scared off, it is believed that prosperity, good health and happy relationships will fill the year. The modern day firecrackers now are tubular, similar to the shape of the bamboo.
But here in this region of Malaysia, I think only the rich ,the contrariness, or the businessmen played the most. They believed that the enormous and loudest noise they exploded into thin air is an addition to their fortune yet to come. Despite the warning from the police or risk to its surrounding onlookers, the competition still looms on.
Honestly, myself never liked it and also never ever got a chance to light on it, what more to say being played in my house. Wakakaka...... Saved more vitamin "m" lo!
